Fishing Vessel Fire Off Salcombe

At 6.23pm Falmouth Coastguard was contacted by the skipper of the 12 metre fishing vessel Peace And Plenty reporting a fire on board.  He reported the vessel was on fire six miles off Salcombe and he had abandoned to a life raft with a hand held VHF radio and EPIRB.

Salcombe RNLI lifeboats were requested to launch and the skipper was recovered from the life raft and brought back to shore by Salcombe RNLI inshore lifeboat.  The fire on board the fishing vessel continued to burn on Tuesday evening and Falmouth Coastguard are issuing navigational warnings for the abandoned vessel.

The MCA Counter Pollution Team is monitoring the situation and salvage options will be considered on Wednesday.
