Massive search operation underway for missing person in the water at Sunderland Harbour

At about 3.20pm today (Tuesday 30 August) UK Coastguard received multiple 999 calls reporting four people in the water as a result of a dinghy capsizing in Sunderland Harbour.

Three persons have been rescued, however one person is still missing.  An intensive search is being carried out by the Sunderland RNLI lifeboats, Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team, the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter, Police helicopter and the South Shields Voluntary Life Brigade.  The North East Ambulance Service and the Northumbria Police are also on scene.

The incident is ongoing.
