Man recovered from the water at Portholland Beach, Cornwall

At about 3.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 August) UK Coastguard received multiple 999 calls reporting a man and a 12 year old girl were recovered from the water after getting into difficulty at Portholland Beach, Cornwall.

Mevagissey Coastguard Rescue Team and the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at Newquay were sent to the scene, alongside the Devon and Cornwall Police, the South West Ambulance Service and a helimed. 

Sadly, the man was declared deceased at the scene. The 12 year old girl was taken to Derriford Hospital by helimed.
