TWO BOYS RESCUED AFTER BEING CUT OFF BY TIDE

Press Notice No:  86-11                                                                 05 April 2011

At Holyhead Coastguard received a 999 call from a boy reporting that he and his friend were cut off by the tide at Piebio Island.
Piebio Island is an outcrop of rock just outside the harbour at Holyhead which is accessible at low water.  The two boys aged 13 and 14 had ventured out to this rock but oblivious to the incoming tide were soon trapped.
Holyhead Coastguard requested the launch of the Holyhead RNLI inshore lifeboat who launched to recover the two boys to the fish dock, where they were met by Holyhead Coastguard rescue team. The two boys were then taken back to school by the team and handed over to the Headmaster.
Barry Priddis, Watch Manager, Holyhead Coastguard said:
With the Easter school holidays coming up, we would advise that anyone going to the coast, makes sure that they check the tide times, and know their limitations to any water activity they are undertaking. We want everyone to enjoy their holidays at the coast and to go home safe.  If you see anyone in trouble at the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
