HM Coastguard and Royal Navy EOD team dealing with suspected parachute mine off Cornish coast


HM Coastguard and the Royal Navy Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team are currently on scene at Maenporth Beach investigating reports of a parachute mine 800 metres off shore.


Just before 9.30am today, HM Coastguard Operations Centre at Falmouth received a 999 call from a local diver who discovered the suspected mine after diving off the coast.  The photographs were immediately sent to the EOD team based in Plymouth.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and the Falmouth RNLI All Weather Lifeboat were sent to the location immediately.  The Lifeboat is keeping vessels clear of the area as a precautionary measure.   HM Coastguard is also been issuing safety broadcasts informing vessels of the exclusion zone.
Mark Rodaway OBE, Duty Commander for HM Coastguard said:  ‘We won’t know exactly what we are dealing with until the EOD team make their way to the device.  Until that time, we have taken measures to clear the area and make sure that vessels and the public are kept safe.  We are appealing to people to keep at a safe distance until it has been declared safe by the EOD team.
'We have no further information at this time but will hopefully provide an update after the EOD team have fully assessed the situation.'

A seriously scary walk in Wales

One April day, Sally  lost her map, her hat and n early her life at L lansteffan .     An inno cent walk along the coast in Wales rapidly turned into something much more sinister for Sally and Clayton . One wrong step onto soft sand set off a chain of events that put Sally in a life-threatening situation . Rescue of teens trapped and in trouble at Bude

A technical rescue tale of expert teams working together one August night. Two teenagers found themselves in serious trouble on a Saturday night on the rugged coast at Bude in Cornwall (23 August 2025) .  Their afternoon’s adventure had left them in a perilous position after the rising tide came in and trapped them , leaving no way out and creating a challenging rescue scenario for the HM Coastguard teams.     Teams at the scene working together Earlier that day, the two young men had climbed down a cliff below Upper Lynstone Caravan Park in Bude, below which there are narrow stretches of sand and rocks when the tide is out but are completely covered when the tide comes in .
