Public urged to stay clear of large sinkhole at Orcombe Point, Exmouth

Yesterday (Wednesday 26 April) at around 11.40am a member of the public made a 999 call to the Coastguard reporting a large sinkhole at the western side of Orcombe Point, Exmouth.

There were reports that a member of the public had rescued a child that had fallen into the 1.2m x 1.2m sinkhole.  The child was uninjured.

Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were sent to the scene immediately and cordoned off the area and have urged the public to stay clear of this area to let the East Devon District Council and emergency service make the area safe.

Remember, if you see anyone in difficulty call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
