Injured walker rescued from rocks and quickly rising tide at Tenby

Earlier today just after 1.30pm, UK Coastguard received a 999 from a member of the public reporting that a walker had fallen on rocks and had injured her leg at Telpyn Point, near Tenby.  Her ordeal didn't stop there she was only 10ft away from a quickly rising tide.

Tenby Coastguard Rescue Team were first to arrive on scene, with the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at St Athan arriving soon after.  The paramedic winchman was lowered to the casualty and helped stabilise her until a Welsh Ambulance Service paramedic was brought in by the Tenby RNLI lifeboat.

Once on scene, the teams worked quickly and winched the paramedic on board and then the winchman and the casualty.  She was flown to Swansea Morriston Hospital - where we hope she is going to make a quick recovery.

Ian Guy, Duty Controller for the UK Coastguard said:  'Although it may look like a simple and easy rescue, these rocks were very precarious.  The teams had the added pressure of a quickly rising tide which meant they were working against the clock.  The caller did exactly the right thing in calling for expert help from the Coastguard.  Our teams, helicopter crews and the RNLI are fully trained and equipped for such rescue procedures and today's rescue is testament to that.'
