Crew Rescued From Burning Fishing Vessel Off Fraserburgh

Five crew were rescued from a fishing vessel which caught fire off Fraserburgh today.

The Coastguard received a Mayday relay broadcast at 1pm from a fishing vessel which had heard the original Mayday from the Fraserburgh registered fishing vessel Karinya which had a fire on board.

The Coastguard sent the Coastguard rescue helicopter from Inverness and requested the launch of the Fraserburgh RNLI all weather lifeboat.

A nearby fishing vessel called Pleiades also responded to the emergency broadcast and recovered the five crew who had abandoned their vessel and taken to a life raft. All five crew are reported to be safely on board the Pleiades with no injuries. The Coastguard is monitoring and assessing the situation with the drifting vessel.
