Collision leads to two people being rescued off Dungeness, Kent

Two people have been successfully rescued after a cargo vessel and a yacht collided off Dungeness, Kent.
HM Coastguard received a Mayday from the yacht following the collision which happened just after 4.10am today (8 August).
Dungeness RNLI lifeboat rescued the two from the yacht. HM Coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter from Lydd was also sent for safety cover. Dover RNLI lifeboat and Dungeness Coastguard Rescue Team are also being called out.
It's understood both crew members are safe and well. The yacht has become entangled with the superstructure of the cargo vessel and will need to be released, but is thought to be intact.
The Maritime & Coastguard’s enforcement team and the duty surveyor have also been informed and are monitoring the situation. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch has also been told.
