Mud rescue success for Coastguards at Cleethorpes

Three Coastguard Rescue Teams have rescued a woman who got stuck in the mud at Humberstone, near Cleethorpes.
The woman and her husband were taking their dogs for a walk when the incident happened just before midday today (5th December).
A 999 call was made to HM Coastguard by the husband. Coastguard Rescue Teams from Cleethopres, Donna Nook and Hull were sent and rescued the woman using specialist mud rescue techniques including wearing special shoes and reunited with her husband, safe and well.
Ryan Douglas, senior maritime operations officer for HM Coastguard said: ‘This couple did everything right. The husband called 999 and asked for the Coastguard, he didn’t try to rescue his wife himself, instead reassuring her from a safe distance that help was on its way.’
‘The lady in question remained calm and still even though she had sunk in the mud up to her thighs. We’re delighted that she’s been safely rescued and is uninjured.
‘We hope it never happens to you but if you become stuck in mud, remember to try to spread your weight as much as possible. Avoid moving and stay as calm as you can. Discourage others from attempting to rescue you, since without the proper equipment they could become stuck too.
‘If you have a mobile phone call 999 and ask for the coastguard or call for help.’
