Mother and son and their dog rescued in nick of time after getting stuck knee deep in mud

Yesterday afternoon Flint Coastguard Rescue Team and Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team raced against a quickly rising tide to rescue a mother and her son and their dog after they got stuck in the mud between the sky tower and Rhyl Harbour.
HM Coastguard received the call for help just after 3.30pm and immediately sent in the two Coastguard Rescue Teams who are trained mud rescue technicians. All three were stuck up to their knees in mud.
Both casualties and the dog were successfully rescued by the Coastguard Rescue Teams just as the tide reached their position. They were taken safely back onto the beach where Rhyl Lifeboat was standing by ready to assist due to the approaching tide.
The casualties were assisted back to the Rhyl Boathouse where Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust paramedics were waiting to treat them. Despite their ordeal, both casualties and the dog were given the all clear to go home and recover. A great example of teamwork all round!

Our advice is always the same if you become stuck in mud or quicksand “Stay calm, try and spread your weight as much as possible and avoid moving.  Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”  Anybody trapped should also discourage other well-meaning members of the public from attempting to rescue them because without the proper equipment they could become stuck too.’  For more top safety tips at the coast please visit Coastguard Safety
