New agreement between Her Majesty's Coastguard and Surf Life Saving GB

Her Majesty’s Coastguard have announced a new agreement with Surf Life Saving GB (SLSGB), in which Surf Life Saving GB will provide beach safety and search and rescue support.

The partnership will see specially trained SLSGB club volunteers assist in responding to distress calls and incidents at the coast under the direction and at the request of HM Coastguard’s Operations Centres.

Claire Hughes, Director of HM Coastguard, said: “Our work is about saving lives and keeping people safe when they are at the coast and the sea. As part of that we work with other organisations such as Surf Life Saving GB so that when someone does get into trouble at the coast, we can call upon a range of people and resources to work with us as part of the response. This signing is about formalising that partnership.”
