Fire on board carrier off Isle of Anglesey

At approximately 4.30pm on 1 December, UK Coastguard was alerted to a fire in one of the cargo holds on a bulk carrier at anchor off the east coast of the Isle of Anglesey.

The Secretary of States Representative (SOSREP) is mobilising to the location to assess the situation. The vessel remains stable at this time and we have received no reports of any pollution. The safety of the crew is our primary concern and we are in discussion with the vessel and continue to monitor the situation closely.

Salvors have been appointed to carry out an assessment and SOSREP will be in discussion with the salvors and ports to evaluate the assessment and consider all options.
