Man who fell from scaffolding at Duart Castle taken to hospital

A man who was injured after falling from scaffolding at 13th Century Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull has been taken to hospital.

Just after 12.30pm today (21 June) the Scottish Fire Service contacted HM Coastguard Stornoway requesting assistance at the incident after the man was reported to have fallen some 20ft.

Tobermory and Craignure Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent to the scene to assist the Scottish Fire Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Using specialist equipment for a technical rope rescue, HM Coastguard was able to stretcher the man from the scaffolding into a waiting helimed.

Kathrine Duffin Senior Coastguard Operations Officer said:  ‘This is an excellent example of multi-agency working and we’re pleased we were able to utilise our rope rescue skills in this difficult situation to get the casualty to hospital quickly. We wish him a speedy recovery.'
