Swimmer dies at Porthcressa beach, Isles of Scilly

A man has died after getting into difficulties while swimming at Porthcressa beach in the Isles of Scilly.

The call came into the UK Coastguard just before six o’clock this evening (30th July) when it was reported that a man had been pulled from the water.

A search was carried out following concern that other swimmers might have been in the area, but no-one else was found and it’s believed he was swimming on his own.

Despite efforts to revive him, the man was declared dead at the scene.

St Mary’s Coastguard Rescue Team, together with St Mary’s all-weather lifeboat, along with South Western Ambulance Service, and Devon and Cornwall Police have all been involved in the incident.
