EX DRAIG: INCIDENT IN CARDIFF BAY

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FOR AN EXERCISE TESTING THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE IN CARDIFF BAY

Swansea Coastguard was first contacted just before 11am this morning to reports that two boats had collided in Cardiff Bay.

The Penarth, Barry and Chepstow Coastguard Rescue Teams have been sent to the scene, along with the Penarth and Barry RNLI lifeboats and the RAF search and rescue helicopter from RMB Chivenor. Police, fire and ambulance crews are also in attendance.

At this time, it is not clear how many people were on board and the extent of any injuries. A search and rescue mission is ongoing.

UPDATE: 10am Thursday 3rd April

A live exercise took place in Cardiff Bay yesterday (Wednesday 2nd April).

HM Coastguard worked alonside the Cardiff Harbour Authority, Cardiff Council, South Wales Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, The Welsh Ambulance Trust, Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, to deliver the largest multi-agency exercise taking place in Wales in 2014.

The planned marine based exercise was designed to test all elements of emergency response including the sliver and bronze chain of command in real time, 999 control rooms, maritime coordination, asset response and media management.
