SEARCH FOR MISSING KAYAKER OFF NORFOLK COAST

A search is underway this afternoon for a missing kayaker off the Norfolk coast.

Yarmouth Coastguard is coordinating the search for the man who left King’s Lynn on Wednesday (6 March). It’s believed he is attempting to travel round the UK for charity. He last made contact with a family member on Thursday evening, but hasn’t been in touch since.
The Sutton Bridge, Hunstanton, Wells and Cley Coastguard Rescue Teams are all involved in the search this afternoon, along with the RNLI lifeboats from Hunstanton and Wells, and the RNLI hovercraft from Hunstanton.
Glynn Young, Watch Manager at Yarmouth Coastguard, said:
“We’d urge anyone who may have spotted this green and blue kayak at sea or on shore since Wednesday 6 March to contact us. We are currently searching the area between Sutton Bridge in the Wash and Wells-next-the-Sea.
“We’d always recommend that kayakers tell someone at home their passenger plan including points of arrival and departure, timescale and any other relevant information. It would also be advisable to consider telling the Coastguard of your intentions and any deviation of your plans en route. You should also carry a VHF marine band radio. Call the Coastguard if you get into difficulty, preferably via channel 16 on your radio or if not call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

UPDATE: 16.20 Saturday 9 March
