TWO BROTHERS RESCUED FROM THE SEA NEAR GOWER PENINSULA
At 8.00 pm, Swansea Coastguard received a 999 call from a young teenager reporting that his two friends were in trouble in the sea.  The teenager had run to a nearby beach where he stopped a walker to use her mobile phone.
Swansea Coastguard called out the Rhosilli Coastguard rescue team, and requested the launch of the Loughor Independent rescue boat, Burry Port RNLI inshore lifeboat and the Tenby RNLI all weather lifeboat and requested a rescue helicopter.
One teenager was recovered from the water by Burry Port lifeboat and the other teenager was winched from the water by the rescue helicopter, both boys have been taken to hospital.
The weather conditions in the area are South Westerly Force 4, moderate sea and swell, with good visibility.
The Rhossili Coastguard rescue team after questioning the two other teenagers in the party have ascertained that they were fishing off rocks at Blue Pool corner. One boy was washed off the rocks and his brother jumped in to try and save him. The remaining two teenagers had no phone with them, so one remained to keep the ones in the water visual, whilst the remaining boy ran to raise the alarm.
Will Parfitt, Watch Manager, Swansea Coastguard said:
The Coastguard recommends that anglers who are fishing on their own close to the water’s edge and from an unstable platform (such as rocks) should wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid.
If you are undertaking activities at the coast, it is advisable to have a means of communication in case of emergency.
