FISHING VESSEL GROUNDED ON THE RIVER MERSEY

A 25 metre Fishing Vessel ‘ Georgelou N’  with 7 crew aboard is aground close to Tailors Bank on the River Mersey.

Liverpool Coastguard received a call from the Liverpool Port Operations Centre shortly after requesting assistance for a vessel with gearbox failure. The vessel shortly afterwards grounded due to the falling tide.

Hoylake all weather and New Brighton inshore RNLI lifeboats were requested to launch and the daughter craft of ‘Vos Pathfinder’, the standby vessel for the Hamilton Gas Field was able to attend the scene due to its close proximity.

Ian Jackson, Deputising Watch Manager at Liverpool Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, said:

"We are hoping that the vessel will be towed off the sandbank later this morning.  The skipper of the fishing vessel has shown great professionalism which has contributed so far to a smooth rescue operation.”

The Troon registered vessel was outward bound from Liverpool. 

The weather conditions on scene were initially unfavourable with thunderstorms the weather has improved with south east winds 10 knots and good visibility.
