WOMAN RESCUED FROM THE RIVER YARE

Yarmouth Coastguard tonight coordinated the rescue of a woman who had fallen from a private broads cruiser into the River Yare near Norwich.

The 999 call was received at 19:40hrs reporting that a woman had fallen into the water. The caller was onboard a private broads cruiser but uncertain of his exact location. Through detailed questioning Yarmouth Coastguard established that he was on the River Yare, in a remote and poorly accessible area between Thorpe Flyover at Norwich and Bramerton.

Winterton and Lowestoft Coastguard Rescue teams, Norwich Fire and Rescue Boat, Hemsby Broads Rescue, South Broads RNLI, Police and Ambulance were sent to the scene.

Although the caller managed to get the woman to the back of the broads cruiser he couldn’t get her back on board. At 2018 the woman, in her 20s, was rescued from the   water by the Fire Service boat and taken by Ambulance to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, suffering from suspected hypothermia. It’s believed that her condition is not life threatening.

Watch Manager Mario Siano said
” This incident happened in a dark and remote area off the beaten track. Using our skills we managed to quickly locate the casualty and send rescuers to the scene.”
