LIVERPOOL COORDINATES SEARCH IN ANGERTON MARSH FOR MISSING MAN

At 11.20 a.m. this morning, Cumbria Police notified Liverpool Coastguard that a man was missing at Angerton Marsh between Kirby in Furness and Foxfield.

Three men, a father and son and a friend had been out shooting wildfowl earlier and at a pre arranged set time and location, when the father of one of the men failed to appear, the alarm was raised as the tide began to sweep in to flood the marshes. High water was at 12.30 today.

The missing 53 year old local man is about 5’ 8” tall, and is wearing chest waders and camouflage top with a snood. He has his gun with him and had last been heard firing at around 9.00 am this morning. Liverpool Coastguard are keen to hear from anyone locally who may have seen him.

The Haverigg and Duddon inshore rescue boats were asked to immediately launch and the Walney Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to the area. The Millom Coastguard Rescue Teams has also been tasked. A rescue helicopter, R 122, was also scrambled. The Duddon mountain rescue team with 16 people and two dogs has also been mobilised to the location. Arnside Coastguard Rescue Team has also been sent to the area with its Argocat which will help in the terrain to provide support. The Whitehaven Coastguard Teams are also en route to relieve the initial teams. Bay Rescue is also assisting with its all terrain tracked Hagglund vehicle.

Su Daintith, Watch manager at Liverpool Coastguard said

“We now have considerable number of rescue units in the area and the local Coastguard Sector Manager is about to join them on scene.  The weather is quite poor today with rain and mist. A cloud base of 300 foot has been observed although that has not stopped the helicopter crew from searching at fairly low level.”
