FALMOUTH COASTGUARD SEARCH FOR MISSING PERSON

Falmouth Coastguard are working with Devon and Cornwall Police to search for a missing 45-year-old man in Newquay.

The man was reported missing after he left his house in Newquay in the early hours of this morning. At 08.25 Devon and Cornwall Police contacted Falmouth Coastguard to request their assistance in the search. Falmouth Coastguard sent the Newquay and St. Merryn Coastguard Rescue Teams to the Pentire Headland to assist with the search. They also requested the launch of the Newquay and Padstow RNLI Lifeboats, along with Rescue 193 Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.

Marc Thomas, Watch Manager, Falmouth Coastguard said:

We are often called upon to search for missing people at the coast due to our ability to send resources such as lifeboats and Search and Rescue helicopters to assist, along with our own volunteer Coastguard Rescue Teams, who are trained in search planning. We are continuing to work with the Police in this search for a missing man – the weather on scene is poor, with force 6-8 winds and occasional rain.

Notes to editors:

• Devon and Cornwall Police are keen to hear from anyone who sees this man or anyone matching his description and ask that they contact them on 08452 777444 quoting police reference 131 040211.
