COASTGUARD ASSIST AFTER FORKLIFT INCIDENT

Humber Coastguard were called for help in dealing with the transfer of a casualty this afternoon after a forklift truck collapsed, causing spinal injuries to a man at an industrial estate near Immingham.

The Fire Brigade and Ambulance proceeded to the scene immediately but at 16.40 East Midlands Ambulance Service contacted Humber Coastguard to request extra assistance.  Humber Coastguard tasked Rescue Helicopter 128 from RAF Leconfield, along with sending Cleethorpes Coastguard Rescue Team to the scene to assist with the landing site and transfer of the casualty, who had to be cut free by the Fire Brigade.

The casualty was then transferred by helicopter to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he was met by Hull Coastguard Rescue Team and the Ambulance crew.

Drew Mahood, Humber Coastguard Watch Manager said:

“Because of our network of volunteer teams, and ability to task other resources such as Search and Rescue helicopters, we are often called upon to support other emergency services in dealing with incidents.  This is a good example of the versatility of HM Coastguard, and of our own volunteer teams.”
