MAN AND DOG CUT OFF ON SANDBANK RESCUED

Press Notice No: 360_10                                        Sunday 12th December, 2010

At 12.26 pm, Liverpool Coastguard received a call from the NCI at Rossal point reporting that a man and his dog were cut off by the tide.
Liverpool Coastguard called out the Fleetwood Coastguard rescue team and requested the launch of the Fleetwood RNLI inshore lifeboat.
Further 999 calls were received from concerned members of the public reporting the incident.
At 12.52 the crew of the Inshore lifeboat reported that they had the man and dog onboard, and they would be taking them back to boathouse.
Paul Parkes, Watch Manager, Liverpool Coastguard said:
The tide in this area is very fast flowing and if you do not check the tide times, you can as in this incident find yourself in trouble very quickly.
Our advice to anyone venturing out onto the sand banks is to ensure that they have checked the tide times to allow themselves enough time to go and walk the dog and be able to get back safely.
